The Great Wave off Kanagawa: Set of 4 Plates

Katsushika Hokusai published “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” around 1830 as one sheet of his series “36 Views of Mount Fuji”. For a ukiyo-e color woodblock print, a separate block was cut for every single color back then and printed onto the paper one after another - handwork meant for thousands of impressions. The sheet has been fascinating people since the 19th century.

This set of four plates brings the work out of the museum and onto the dining table. Each of the four plates shows a section of the dramatic wave rising powerfully over the sea, while Fuji-san keeps watch calmly on the horizon. So the motif meets you not on the wall, but at dinner.

They are made from high-quality ceramic, 21 cm across and 360 g per piece - a size classically used for cake, starters and smaller main courses. You feel the weight when you lift one, and it gives them a stable footing on the table.
