Celebrate Arbor Day with Royal Family Mochi – Plant trees and enjoy spring

"April does what it wants!" When I first learned German, I thought, "What does that mean?" 🤔 But now I understand—April really does what it wants!

I'm still hesitant to pack my heavy jacket away and get my spring clothes out, but somehow it feels like spring now! 🌞 And what always comes to mind? Arbor Day (식목일) in Korea. 🌱

Arbor Day in Korea

On April 5, everyone in Korea plants trees together. This day is truly no ordinary day – it has been a national project since 1949 to rebuild Korea's natural environment after the Korean War. Korea's forests have grown 27-fold since 1953 – impressive, isn't it?

This day was so promoted by the Korean government that even posters promoting reforestation were distributed in the 1960s.

April 5th was a public holiday so families could plant trees together. Schools and businesses used this day to combine nature trips with tree planting. I, too, remember planting trees at school as children and having fun doing it.

It is such a beautiful idea how this common day is celebrated every year.

My daughter and I talked about maybe planting a tree too.

You know what I'd rather plant? Wild garlic! I love that wild garlic is so popular in Korea—I could turn it into pickled wild garlic jars and serve them at the next family barbecue this Easter. That would definitely be a hit! 😋

Our daughter wants to plant a cherry tree . After planting, she'll probably ask us every day, "When will the fruit finally grow? When can I eat the cherries?" 😄

And what fits perfectly with this day?

When I think of spring, I not only want to plant a tree, but also enjoy something delicious . And what could be better for a spring picnic than a Royal Family Mochi ? 🍡

I love how soft and delicious they are—the perfect snack for a picnic in the park or after a day of gardening. By the way, did you know they come in 6 different varieties ? They're vegan and perfect for sharing with friends or family!
